a very succulent monday

hello friends & happy monday! how was your weekend? i was unfortunately under the weather {and still continue to be} and spent the whole weekend, from mid-friday on, confined to either my bed or the couch, watching nearly the entire sex & the city series...seriously!  there does come a time when a girl has had too much sex & the city {for now}. dan took great care of me, though, providing all of the sickie necessities - chicken noodle soup, saltines, orange juice...he really is the perfect fiancé! {it's always the little things!} anyhow, i thought i would take a little break from doing absolutely nothing and reach out to all of my friends in the cyber-world...how are you all doing today?
i am becoming more and more drawn to succulents all the time.  it seems that they are becoming  quite the trendy plant...but goodness! why not? they are simply gorgeous & seem to be the perfect plant companion for someone that doesn't have a very green thumb. {let it be known that i am fabulous with fresh cut flowers, but quite the opposite with living, potted pretties...they usually, sadly, end up in my compost bin...eek}. now, i know that succulents still need to be tended to, but through some research, i learned that they are a lot more forgiving than your average houseplant. so, i truly do intend on giving the succulent my best shot this year! {fingers crossed}
there is this very little {literally - she must be no more than 5' tall, sans platforms} old lady who lives a couple of doors down from me...she wears 4" wooden platforms and is very senile, though she still manages to get around {i ran into her in the market around the corner once - her not knowing who i really was...but i still helped her when asked, "Barbara, would you mind grabbing that juice for me?"} and she is always tending to her concrete "garden" covered with succulents....yep, an entire "garden" made up of a concrete ground & tons of concrete pots filled with lush succulents. every time i see her, i think to myself...this is one very cool lady...in her wooden platforms, tending to her succulents {probably way long before they were ever considered cool}...though, i have noticed recently that i haven't really seen her around and it makes me worry a bit...so, today, i post this blog in honor of her...
{wow, i had a lot to say today! can you tell how lonely & bored i am!}

i had a dream last night...

...

i dreamt that...

i set out on a parisian mini adventure {via bicycle}

i started off down this rustic little pathway...

and then wandered into the loveliest field of wild pom-pom flowers...
the colors were so vivid & lovely
{i had to pick a few, at least...wouldn't you?}

i met up with zooey deschanel along the way
{she was on location in paris}...
it was so strange... we were like best friends...
so, we strolled around on our bikes for a bit, and then...

off to the market we went...
{we had to sample the cheeses first, of course!}

...and then...my favorite! let the hunting begin...

zooey found this adorable coin purse...

and i hit the jackpot!
i found all of this lovely vintage milk glass!
{luckily, the kind woman let me come back for it...
since i couldn't possibly take it with me right then...
being on my bike and all!}

zooey went back to filming & i headed home...
along the way, i crossed paths with a little street art...
rêve...it means dream or daydream...
hmmm...funny, because the whole day was certainly feeling a little dreamy...
{personal photo}

ahh...finally, home sweet home...just beyond those lovely blue doors :)

i walked straight in to these scrumptious ham & egg crêpes...
so lovingly prepared by dan

oh! and remember those lovely pom pom flowers i picked?
this is what i did with them...

...and then i woke up
 {but it was sure lovely while it lasted}

sweet dreaming to you!

WEDnesday : bridesmaids deserve to look pretty, too

happy WEDnesday all! wow! this week is just flying by for me...how about all of you?
i feel like i haven't written a WEDnesday post in a while...i've been so busy that weddings {including my own} have not been at the top of my brain. however, i was talking with a friend who is getting married this summer and she inspired me to post a little something for her regarding her bridesmaids dresses...but i haven't put all of the right parts and pieces for her together just yet, so that will have to post next week...but while pulling inspiration for her bridesmaids, i came across so many images that i love and that inspire some thoughts on my bridesmaids dress...
i have always loved a variation of texture, tonal depth, & pops of pattern {in generally anything}. i also like the idea of metallic. so, of course, i would love to incorporate some of these ideas into my wedding...including the bridesmaids dresses. after all, my girls deserve to look pretty, too!

...these are some sweet images that strike my fancy...aren't they just lovely?...

foodie fridays: pretty hippie food

hello friends! friday has finally arrived!!! i hope you all made it okay through the week...i tell you, it felt like a long one for me. but here we are, off to the weekend :) do you all have lovely plans? i am just going to take it easy...see some friends, get a manicure, relax...
so, i am working from home on this gorgeous sunny friday and actually had time this morning to make a very delicious breakfast for dan and myself. i felt so inspired by my post last saturday {simply breakfast} that i wanted to make a gorgeous {photo-worthy} breakfast to share with all of you. {my apologies that you can't taste through the photos...but use you imagination!}
i have this thing for what i call "hippie food"...it involves concoctions of lots of veggies, usually leafy greens and such...but i generally add some sort of protein, too. this is the type of meal that i make on a regular basis but would never show photos of because the presentation is not always the best...it's usually just a mashed-up looking sort of thing...but i promise you, it is still delicious!
so, today i present you with {somewhat} pretty hippie food & hand squeezed grapefruit juice :)

mmm...

a quickie recipe for the scramble & serving suggestions:
  • slice all veggies
  • heirloom tomato, set aside in a bowl & drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, sprinkle with sea salt, fresh ground pepper and oregano {let sit while prepping & cooking everything else}
  • pan-fry shallots, zucchini and yellow bell pepper in olive oil - season with salt & pepper
  • once veggies are nearly done {be cautious not to overcook  as the zucchini will get very soggy} add the chard and the heirloom tomatoes {with balsamic & all} - sear for just a few minutes
  • serve with a crunchy, toasted baguette drizzled with olive oil & fresh ground pepper, a fried egg or 2 on top & chicken sausage {any variety of your liking}
  • if you are vegetarian, replace the chicken sausage with a field roast sausage {smoked apple sage is my favorite}
  • if you are vegan, same as above but nix the egg, too
have a happy weekend :)

time for a tune-up

hello everyone! how are you on this thursday? fabulous, i can only guess!
well friends, i reckon it is time for some updated tunes!!! i don't know how this always happens...i have 30+ days worth of music in my iTunes library...but i get stuck listening to the same songs over & over until i am bored of my selection! same thing with my closet...it's filled {to the brim} with clothes, but i still get tired of of what i own and tend to wear the same few things again & again...
why oh why do i feel this dissatisfaction? i just can't help but want to always discover new things and fill my life with variety...what can i say? i'm just a girl who happen to love music {and clothes, and lovelies for the home...and lipstick...and...and...and you get the point!} so, my eager little self went searching for some new tunes to add to my library and to create the new playlist that you hear right now. {player is at the bottom of the page if you want to flip through the tracks}
p.s. one of the most lovely things about searching for new music is that you usually end up rediscovering some music that you already own that you just haven't listened to for a while :) so this little playlist is made up of some favorites, both old & new

happy listening!
*bonus: i also have a couple of music videos for your viewing/listening pleasure {you will have to pause the player at the bottom of the page first though...sorry!} the one for desmond and the tutus : kiss me on the cheek is not so much a video as it is just a still image while the song is playing, but i could not locate the song to add to my playlist...and i had to share because this {specifically this remix of the song} is my absolute favorite right now!!! i get a perma-smile everytime i listen to it : ) the oren lavie video was just too cool not to share! it is done by stop motion and i just adore it...enjoy!

oh stormy day, oh happy day

you know, i have been complaining a lot lately about this crummy rainy & gray seattle weather ...just yearning for spring to get here already. but then...an actual storm came into town on this monday valentine's evening...thunder, hail, gusts of wind, lots of big rain (compared to the usual suspect: annoying misty rain)...and it made me really happy :) i absolutely love a good storm. i feel so energized and inspired when all cozied up with a cup of tea...the soothing sounds of thunder & rain in the background. so here i am...sitting at my little desk, cozied up with a blanket, drinking a cup of sleepy time tea and listening to sharon van etten...feeling inspired to write this blog...glad you all could join me :) {if only just in your imagination}
what do you love to do when it's storming?

some random stormy goodness just for you...

wouldn't you love to dance in a storm?

quoi? c'est juste un peu de pluie...

as a kid, i remember having a rainy days activities book
that was filled with all sorts of crafts and things
to do indoors on a rainy day...i loved it!
i went on a web hunt for this little fun-filled book...
and while searching for an image of the book i remember,
i came across a more adult version...
a burlesque coloring book for rainy days!
so, though i was unsuccessful at my intended search,
i was so pleased to come across this vintage gem!
{found on s.o.s. thrift...unfortunately already sold}

current conditions:
outside - raining & thundering
inside - blogging, sipping & listening
{mmm hmmm, those are my favorite anthro pj bottoms
and my feet...standing on my chair to get this shot :)}
